IDENTITY STATEMENT
Hi! My name is Maddie Hellwig. I am a student at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln graduating in May 2022. Upon graduating in May I am moving to Houston to pursue a marketing career full time. When I have free time I love to hang out with my close friends, bake, watch movies and read. I believe that my personal identity will play a role in my approach to this course because I am used to spending time working with others to display what they are and who they are to employers. This will be important to showcase the author of my choosing this semester. I have also held many internships throughout the last few
years and the one I feel that will be the most useful in this course will be the one in which I worked for a consulting agency and I had to work with a team to uncover their internal issues and build a 5 step plan to fix them while creating websites, graphics, coursework for employees among many other aspects. These skills will be useful throughout uncovering authors and their stories while portraying them accurately.
My work in the digital humanities realm is relatively slim as I have only taken one course throughout my time at college, that being ENGL 277: Being Human in a Digital Age. I loved that course so when given the option to have an elective for the spring of 2022 semester I wanted to do something out of my usual comfort zone in the college of business and dive into something that I am passionate about. Although being in the college of business I have had the opportunity to hold multiple internships alongside course projects that specialize in intense research along with creatively building or improving websites and marketing plans. I think that both of these aspects
will influence my work on the satellite projects for One More Voice as I love to learn and expand what I already know while doing so creatively. Throughout this course and building our projects I hope to learn more about digital humanities as a whole and develop a deeper understanding of the lost voices of the past all while expanding my knowledge on building an accessible website.
